What is ethylene propylene rubber

EPR is called ethylene propylene rubber, while EPM is binary ethylene propylene rubber, and EPDM is ternary ethylene propylene rubber. They are fundamentally different. EPM is copolymerized from ethylene propylene and propylene, while EPDM is copolymerized from ethylene and propylene with non-conjugated diene monomers.

 

EPM is a saturated rubber with stable chemical properties, therefore it can be used as a viscosity index improver for lubricants. 

 

J0010 and J0050 are both EPM. EPDM cannot be used as a viscosity index improver for lubricants.

J0010 polymer is an ethylene-propylene copolymer (EPM), also known as ethylene propylene rubber (OCP), sourced from China CNPC.

  • It appears as a white, transparent solid, with a low molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution.
  • Its shear stability index (SSI) is less than 25. The product requires no degradation before use and can be used directly.
  • It is an ideal viscosity index improver for lubricants and is suitable for high-grade, multi-level auto engine oils.

J0050 polymer is an ethylene-propylene copolymer (EPM), also known as ethylene propylene rubber (OCP), sourced from China National Petroleum Corporation.

  • It appears as a white, transparent block, with a low molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution.
  • Its SSI is less than 45.
  • J0050 has stronger viscosity-enhancing capabilities and is used as a viscosity index improver(VII) for lubricants such as diesel engine oils and gear oils.
