Mechanism of Action: How It Works
To understand the efficacy of our PMA additive, it is essential to understand the crystallization process of waxy crude oils:
Wax Crystallization: At low temperatures, paraffin waxes in base oils crystallize. Without treatment, these crystals grow and interlock to form a rigid 3D network, preventing the oil from flowing.
PMA Interference: As a Pour Point Depressant, the PMA molecule possesses a comb-like structure. It functions by adsorbing onto the surface of nascent wax crystals or co-crystallizing with the wax.
Crystal Modification: This interaction changes the direction of crystal growth and prevents the crystals from agglomerating into a network. The result is smaller, separate crystals that allow the oil to remain fluid at significantly lower temperatures.
Technical Concepts: Pour Point vs. Solidification Point
